angle of repose
- Angle Of Repose
(1) Angle of repose is the maximum slope at which soils and loose materials can remain stable and in place without slumping or sloughing off.
(2) Angle of repose is the steepest slope at which material will remain at rest without moving or sliding down that slope.
Loose material will slide or roll down any steeper angle.
For large blocky rocks, the angle of repose is higher than for sand or small round rocks.
(1) My personal angle of repose is anything less than vertical, especially right after lunch.
(2) The angle of repose is reflected in the number of sleeping cats you can get into a pile before it explodes in your face. It's best to practice with rocks until you get your technique down. Rocks don't have claws. Or attitude.
