A time between 5500 and 3500 years ago.
Archaic peoples hunted and gathered wild food, while adjusting to a warmer, drier climate at the end of the last ice age.
They used natural shelters and temporary structures as homes while migrating seasonally to find resources.
Hunters from this time period used atlatls (spear throwers) and darts.
With the exception of Gore-Tex and titanium cups, backpackers seem to be stuck in the Archaic Period.
