- Beaded Lake
One in a chained set of lakes connected by a stream.
These are usually in glacier country. The alternate name is "Paternoster Lake", because of the resemblance to rosary beads on a chain.
Glaciers deposit natural dams of rock and debris, so water draining from a glacier will often form multiple lakes in a single alpine valley with a single stream connecting them.
We went up the valley from one paternoster lake to another, and it was just us, the water, and 18,000 billion mosquitoes.
