- Difficulty Level
A subjective rating (like easy, moderate, or difficult) of the challenge a trail presents for a hypothetical average user of average physical abilities.
It is a function of trail alignment, grade steepness, amount of elevation gained and lost, and natural barriers that have to be crossed.
Snow, ice, rain, and other natural conditions also affect it.
Easy is defined as relaxing, posing minimal difficulties and allowing travel with little physical effort.
Moderate does not require excessive or extreme physical effort.
Difficult is physically strenuous, requiring excessive or extreme physical effort.
This is sometimes called the "Difficulty Rating".
